The past is over. It can touch me not.

All is well.

“It [the real world] has no past, for what can be forgiven but the past, and if it is forgiven, it is gone.” [CE W-289.1:5]

If I have forgiven and let the past go, then what more is there to say? In the quiet of my room, feeling peaceful, this lesson’s idea is true for me. I expect though that a relative will speak with me and my thoughts will go into troubleshooting mode where I will engage with past thoughts to ward of any future trouble. Perhaps this is OK if I understand that it is just a tool that I am utilizing for that moment.

In study group this week we were discussing Reincarnation as presented in the Manual, chapter 24.

“In this sense, it can be said that their [beliefs] truth lies in their usefulness. All beliefs that lead to progress should be honored.” [CE M-24.6:10-11]

Jesus is teaching that belief in reincarnation is insignificant and should not get in the way of our learning today. We do not need to reject it, just accept it for its usefulness in our growth.

This says to me that I can hold onto my peace but also use my memory for the tool it is. It can assist me with planning when it is useful and then be put back in my toolbox.

“For what can be forgiven but the past, and if it is forgiven it is gone.”

The past is forgiven because what I think occurred did not as I did not see my brother/sister in truth. My limited perception could not see what was true and my thoughts created the pain. I need but accept that I don’t know the truth, and the past dissipates.

Unless I leg go of judging things by my past memories, I am not seeing what is before me. How often I have looked at my loved ones and judged their appearance against past experiences and expectations. They want to be seen as their true Selves just as I do.

There is a saying attributed to Maya Angelo:  “When people show you who they are, believe them.”

I have never liked this because I took it as holding onto a negative belief about someone. I believe people grow and change toward the positive. I believe in forgiveness. I try to find the best in others.

The Course teaches that we are all Holy Children of God. For me this means that I am to get to where I can see that in everyone. Long loving looks is what everyone deserves. This allows me time to remove the judgements of the past that cloud my eyes so I can truly see.

“(I)n a present world the past has left untouched and free of sin.”

I free the past and all my loved ones who I mistakenly created false thoughts. Forgiveness I use to free myself and my beloveds.

All is now clear. <3
