I did not really grasp this section’s lesson as I read it, so I am grateful for Robert Perry’s commentary to give me focus on the key points. Robert points out Jesus’ use of the word ‘excel’ in reference to our developing our abilities. Wanting to excel points to competition and the want to be superior. He suggests that we reflect on our abilities and consider if ‘I developed this ability to out do my brother’.

HS can use our abilities to put them all in service to miracles. As an example of this, Robert lists some of Helen’s abilities and how they served in the scribing of the Course.

“God has lit your mind Himself, and keeps your mind lit by His light because His light is what your mind is.” (13.1)
