“The mind returns itself to its proper function only when it will to know.” (11.1)
This section tells us that before separation from God we existed in a state of knowing. Then, we wanted to perceive, and the separation began.
This is curious. What’s the appeal of perception? In what way were we already separate to have a desire to separate from God? These are big questions.
Sometimes I feel wrong in wanting to know, to understand – I sometimes think that aligning my will with God’s eliminates my own desires and inspirations.
Here we are told the desire to know comes from the superconsciousness – our mind’s connection to God. It seems to me now that the desire to know is a call to return home.
