“Life is nothing but a dream, and if we are artists, then we can create our life with Love, and our dream becomes a masterpiece of art.” ~ Don Miguel Ruiz
Happy Sunday!
The other day I was reading “The Mastery of Love” by Don Miguel Ruiz. In the book he tells the story of a man who proclaims that love does not exist, this is based on his own experiences. As he goes through his life of arguing that love does not exist he meets a woman who proclaims that love does not exist based on her pain and losses. They become great friends who come to enjoy every moment spent together. One day the man is reflecting on how important the woman is to him and he has a vision. He sees a star that represents all the love within him. The star falls to earth so the man picks it up and brings it to the woman. He hands it to her but she cannot hold it so it drops and breaks into a million pieces on the ground. Don Miguel said the fault was with the man who gave the woman responsibility for his happiness as another person can never be responsible for your happiness because they cannot know your mind and expectations for the future.
What I understood from Don Miguel’s story is that another person cannot hold your love for you. I felt this was expounding the importance of self-Love but didn’t quite understand.
Yesterday I spent the day writing my novel – my favorite kind of day!
I had a big A-HA while working through my story, as a result I am very excited to take something I uncovered while doing my creative writing and now bring it back to this blog. Usually it is the other way around!
In my novel my romantic couple were talking, they are both working on improving their relationships with other people. They have come to realize that ‘you reap what you sow’ so that the way you treat others is the way they treat you. They move this idea to love and find it doesn’t work. Jon (my male lead character) thinks of his first heartbreak and knows he loved the girl but still she hurt him. Then he realizes that he had feared he was not good enough for her so that is what happened.
This is when I understood deeper what Don Miguel was saying. We cannot give our love to another, we must share it! We must have love within our hearts for ourselves that we then share with our beloveds.
I remember when learning of Law of Attraction the many times Abraham spoke of our ‘wobbling’, not being clear on our desire, and thereby pushing away what we want.
How can we truly Love another if within ourselves we doubt, question, or berate ourselves? We must have the clarity that loving ourselves gives to know fully that we are lovable and worthy of love.
How can our gift of love be anything more than bits and pieces when there is no substance behind it? It is like writing a check for a million dollars to your beloved when you have no money in the bank!
And so the journey of Self is the most valuable journey the seeker can set out on. It is the way we push aside all the illusions placed by our personality/egoic self to conceal our true Self of well-being and Love. Many times I have questioned this journey as others observe it as selfish.
My goal has not changed. God knows what it is. The Universe rises up to put before me the things I must see to keep moving toward my goal.
What is my goal?
To Love well!
I share my Love with you. Don’t worry it is secure. It is growing, maturing, and well invested.
